"It's the same old tissue, honey, it does not make a distinction, ok? It's still going to work the exact same way", my exasperated other half hissed into my ear as I grabbed containers after containers of some 'designer' tissue. DESIGNER TISSUE! Hah, can you even hear me say that? I can't believe I in fact composed 'designer tissue'. So, yes, for a graphic designer and author who understands everything about the type of effort one takes into packaging and branding items, I sure fell for it. All the hoopla. The shenanigans. The 'suck 'em in with great copy and fab color combo'. Hey, I am still a customer, keep in mind that. I am entitled to succumb to good product packaging, I have a prevailing right to be human.

They are so pretty ... the product packaging. I swear!

They have the 'nature lover' product packaging, the 'fruity' packaging, the 'lady on the go' product packaging, and after that they have the 'kids' product packaging. I got 4 of each style bundles and made a run for the counter with them with my shouting kids and exasperated husband following me in slow movement. It was certainly a 'die-hard' minute. You understand, when the hero is running away from a lot of wild bad guys with device guns, and they're shooting at your feet or something ... and there's an explosion behind you ... and everything occurs in ssslllloooowwwww mmmmooooottttttiiiioooonnnnn.

Well, in this case, I was running for checkout with boxes of tissue paper with expensive packaging designs on them. I liked the product packaging creates so much, after using up all the tissues in the boxes, I would cut out the designs and put it into my 'must keep for reference' clear folder. I do not keep a lot of things in there since I am pretty selective about the styles that I like, however these product packaging designs made the cut.

You see, this is the kind of thing that takes place when you put some effort into making your packaging design. Yeah, we all have this in the back of our heads ... "Hey, it's PACKAGING! They're going to THROW the PACKAGING away.

This is what I have to tell you, as a graphic designer and consumer. The more effort you take into designing your packaging, more clients will take a look and stop at your product packaging or what's inside the product packaging. Now, does it make good sense for me to say now that when they take and stop notice of your packaging, your possibility of getting them to buy your product increases? Precisely.

You see, the role of product packaging is to grab the consumer's attention. And without an electrifying product packaging, consumers are going to walk past the stacks and loads of other rival products ... and yours ... without even knowing you're there! Your item is sitting there on a rack, for goodness sake, and the only weapon you have is to have a good packaging. Once they take a more info look and stop, you've won the first round.
